Cleveland Barons News Release

CLEVELAND –The Cleveland Barons announced today the "Clip Carkner's Curls for Cancer" campaign. All proceeds raised from the efforts will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Michael T. Lehr, President of the Cleveland Barons, made announcement.

The Barons will sell raffle tickets for the Clip Carkner's Curls for Cancer campaign at each game until Saturday, March 19th. The winner of the raffle will win the chance to shave Matt Carkner's head following the Barons game against the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday, March 26th at 7:00pm as well as four glass tickets to the game. Raffle tickets can be purchased in the Gund Arena concourse outside section 126 for $1 or six entries can be purchased for $5.

In addition to the raffle, the Barons will hold a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. When fans purchase $21 tickets, the Barons will donate $11 to the charitable organization. Fans must call the Barons front office at 216-420-0000 to take advantage of the offer.

This is the third season the Barons are holding a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In 2003, Brad Holy, the brother of Public Relations Coordinator Tom Holy, was diagnosed with a form of Leukemia. Since Brad's diagnosis, he has been treated with Gleevec, a Leukemia-fighting pill that's research and development was funded by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The pill is an alternative to the traditional chemotherapy/radiation/bone-marrow transplant procedure that is commonly used to treat the disease.

"This disease touched the Barons family in a direct manner," stated Lehr. "It is amazing to see our players, front office, and fans rally around the cause. Matt Carkner and his wife Kary have stepped up and taken an active stance in giving back to the community."

The Carkner's have teamed up to lead multiple Barons philanthropic endeavors. Each season, the couple organizes "Carkner's Christmas" with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cleveland. They also sit on the Board of Directors for the Annual Night with the Cleveland Barons, an event designed to raise money for Special Olympics through the Doug Dieken Foundation.

"I have been growing out my hair for the last year and a half," stated Matt Carkner. "My wife suggested that I cut it for charity and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was the perfect cause."

Barons tickets can be purchased at all TicketMaster Outlets, the Gund Arena Box Office, and charge-by-phone by calling 216-241-5555. More information about the Barons is available by calling 216-420-0000 or by Crashing The Net at www.clevelandbarons.net.
