
Grizzlies Fall to Mavericks 5-4 in Overtime

Independence, Missouri - Mark Cooper scored the game winning goal with 35 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Kansas City Mavericks a 5-4 win over the Utah Grizzlies on Saturday night at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
The Grizzlies got on the board first as Caleb Herbert scored his 8th goal of the season. Herbert ended the night with 1 goal and 2 assists.
Kansas City tied up the game as former Grizzly CJ Eick scored his first of the season 18:45 into the period.
The second period saw the lead change hands 4 times, eventually settling on a 3-3 score after the second period. Austin Carroll scored a goal for the second straight game to give Utah a 2-1 lead. Kansas City answered with Matt Robertson and Jared VanWormer scoring 1:01 apart from each other to give the Mavericks a 3-2 lead. Taylor Richart tied up the game with his parents in the stands at the 8:17 mark of the second period.
Utah took a 4-3 lead after Jake Marchment scored in the slot. Marchment had 10 goals in 22 games for Utah last season after being acquired in a mid-season trade.
Kansas City tied up the game after Greg Betzold scored 7:27 into the period. It stayed that way until Cooper scored the game winner for the Mavericks, who have won in overtime in back to back nights at home.
Utah falls to 4-1-3 on the season and have picked up a standings point in 7 of their first 8 games. Kansas City goes to 5-1-1 on the year.
Kevin Carr stopped 31 of 36 shots for Utah in goal. Mason McDonald stopped 23 of 27 for Kansas City.
Utah was 1 for 3 on the power play, though the Grizzlies didn't get a power play opportunity after the second period. Kansas City was 0 for 4 on the man advantage.
It's a quick turnaround for the Grizzlies, who are off to Wichita for a game on Sunday afternoon. 4:05 pm Central time, 3:05 pm mountain time. It's the first of three games between the two teams in Wichita. The Grizzlies return home on November 14th against the Indy Fuel.
