KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Idaho Steelheads (4-6-1) fell 3-1 in a special teams battle to the Kalamazoo Wings (4-4-1) on Sunday afternoon from Wings Event Center.

After a scoreless first period, special teams came to the forefront in a three-minute span late in the second period. At 13:33, Wings forward Wade Murphy put back a rebound shorthanded to put the home side ahead first, 1-0, but on the same power play, Steelheads defenseman Brady Norrish floated a shot from the blue line that snuck through traffic to level the score, 1-1, at 14:28. The next power play for the Wings gave forward Justin Taylor a chance to tip a shot in at 16:32, moving the Wings ahead 2-1.

A fast third period lended a comeback bid for the Steelheads. However, an empty net goal by Taylor at 19:40 sealed the 3-1 result in favor of the Wings. Wings netminder Keegan Asmundson (1-0-0) halted 29 of 30 shots in the win, while Steelheads goaltender Tomas Sholl (1-2-0) stopped 23 of 25 shots in the loss.
