
Grizzlies fall to Houston, 5-3

WEST VALLEY CITY, UT - The power play was on display for both Utah and Houston on Wednesday night as the teams combined to score five times with the man advantage but it was Houston who eventually wound up on top in the offensive contest by a final score of 5-3. With the win, the Aeros move ahead of Cincinnati into the third spot in the Western Division.
Utah got off to a great start against the Aeros scoring just over four minutes into the game. Eric Labelle took a pass from Jakub Koreis and made a great move getting goaltender Josh Harding out of position for his second goal of the season assisted by Koreis and Martin Sonnenberg at 4:03. Houston tied the score at the 10:11 mark with Junior Lessard redirecting a Zbynek Michalek shot by David LeNeveu for his 10th goal of the season. Utah would regain the lead at 2-1 on the power play with a slap shot y David Cornacchia scoring his first AHL goal in his 52nd AHL game. Fredrik Sjostrom and Peter White combined on the helpers at the 15:18 mark. Utah outshot the Aeros 13-10 in the period.
Houston scored the only goal of the second frame on the power play. Michalek snapped a shot by LeNeveu for his sixth goal of the season assisted by Brent Burns and Raymond Giroux at the 10:55 mark. The Aeros were all over the Grizzlies in the frame outshooting Utah 16-5.
With the score tied 2-2, the Aeros gained their first lead of the game striking again on the power play. Lessard lit the lamp again off a rebound from a Michalek shot scoring his 11th goal of the season and second goal of the night assisted by Michalek and Dan Cavanaugh. Houston padded their lead in the third with David Bararuk leading a rush that created a chance for Jeremy Reich who finished with his seventh goal of the season, also on the power play. Utah would cut the 4-2 lead to just a goal with a power play goal by Kiel McLeod, his 12th goal of the season, assisted by White and Sjostrom at 14:17 of the third period. Utah pulled LeNeveu with just over a minute remaining but couldn't beat Harding and eventually Law buried an empty net goal for his 25th goal of the season.
The Aeros outshot the Grizzlies 38-25 including 28-12 in the final two periods and Houston finished the night 3 for 7 on the power play. Utah had a fine night with th man advantage as well scoring twice in five chances.
The Grizzlies will host the Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday night at the 'E' Center. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
