Dogs Lose in Shootout

HAMILTON, ON - Jordin Tootoo had two goals and six shots, leading the Milwaukee Admirals over the Hamilton Bulldogs 4-3 in a shootout on Wednesday night at Copps Coliseum. Earning a single point for the regulation tie, Hamilton (34-28-7-6) now has 81 points and remains in fourth place in the AHL's North Division.

The teams traded goals 1:30 apart in the first period. Jordin Tootoo scored on a breakaway at 14:09 to give the Admirals a 1-0 lead. Then at 15:39, the Bulldogs responded when Duncan Milroy banged in a loose puck through the five-hole of Milwaukee goaltender Brian Finley.

The Admirals regained the lead at 4:45 of the second period when Brendan Yarema notched his ninth marker of the season. The goal made the score 2-1 for the Admirals and was assisted by Paul Brown.

With two goals in a span of 2:13 in the third period, Hamilton took a 3-2 lead. At 1:15 on the power play, Andrew Archer let a hard shot go from the point that bounced off the end-boards to Antti Miettinen who deposited the puck into the vacated Milwaukee net. Then Tomas Plekanec took a backhand pass from Jason Ward and buried a high shot past Finley at the 3:28 mark to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead.

With his second goal of the night, Tootoo tied the game for Milwaukee at 18:04 of the third period on the power play. Simon Gamache and Scottie Upshall recorded assists on the goal.

After a scoreless overtime period, the game was forced to a shootout. Plekanec was the lone scorer for the Bulldogs while Andrew Hutchinson and Libor Pivko were successful on their attempts, lifting the Admirals over the Dogs 2-1 in the shootout and earning the extra-point.

Yann Danis was solid for the Bulldogs in a losing effort, making 29 saves on 32 shots and stopping six of the eight shooters he faced in the shootout. Brian Finley was equal to the task stopping seven of the eight Hamilton shooters in the shootout, and turning aside 31 of the 34 shots he faced in the game.

The Bulldogs next action takes place on Friday, April 8th when they host the Milwaukee Admirals at Copps Coliseum.
