Amerks sign Rochester native Sam Paolini

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans General Manager Jody Gage announced today that the Amerks have signed Rochester native Sam Paolini to a professional tryout contract (PTO). Paolini returns to the Amerks, where he played four games last season.

The 25 year old joins his sixth team of the season and fourth American Hockey League club. This season, he has played in six games in the AHL with teams in Utah, San Antonio and Cleveland. The left wing has also spent 61 games in the East Coast Hockey League, recording 15 goals and 35 assists.

Last season, he played in 63 games and notched 18 goals and 28 assists with the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). He also played in four games with the Amerks and one with the Cleveland Barons. He scored a goal in his Rochester debut on March 16, 2004, at St. John's. Paolini was named to the ECHL Eastern Conference All-Star team and was awarded ECHL Rookie of the Month honors in October 2003. He made his American Hockey League debut against Rochester as a member of the Cleveland Barons on December 23, 2004. He recorded one assist in a 3-0 win over the Amerks at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial.

He played his college hockey at Cornell University (1999-2003). In his four seasons with the Big Red, he registered 37 goals and 51 assists for 88 points in 115 games. His best season was 2001-02, when he led Cornell in goals (15) and points (32), helping the Big Red to a 25-win season and a runner-up finish to Harvard in the ECAC Championship.
