SAUGET, IL - Grizzlies catcher Landon Hernandez had two of the Grizzlies three RBI in a 3-2 Gateway win against the Frontier Greys Wednesday afternoon at GCS Ballpark in front of 4,427 fans.

Hernandez had a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first to score Jonathan Johnson and give Gateway (15-7) a 1-0 lead. Johnson later scored the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth on a Hernandez RBI single to give the Grizzlies a 3-2 lead.

The win was Gateway's sixth in a row and gave them their sixth series win in eight series.

Both teams scored early and most of the game was spent tied 2-2. Gateway plated two in the bottom of the first. A Balbino Fuenmayor two run homer tied the game in the top of the second.

Pitching was the story for most of the afternoon. Gateway lefy Gregg Downing pitched seven innings, gave up two runs, five hits, two walks and struck out 11. The 11 strikeouts were a season-best for Downing. He also had a season-best in walks. He allowed two, and did not walk a batter until the sixth inning.

Left-hander Eric Wooten started for the Greys. He went seven innings, gave up two runs, five hits, struck out seven and didn't walk any.

The win went to Gateway reliever Zac Treece (3-0). Richard Barrett recorded his league-leading seventh save of the year.
