CRESTWOOD, IL- The Windy City ThunderBolts defeated the Gateway Grizzlies 7-3 Thursday night in a rain-shortened seven-inning contest at Standard Bank Stadium. With the win, the ThunderBolts avoided the sweep at the hands of the visiting Grizzlies.

Windy City (50-37) jumped on Grizzlies starter Jamie Arneson. The lefty suffered his first loss of the year, failing to record an out in the second inning when he was removed. Arneson allowed seven runs, six earned, on six hits. He walked four and did not strike out a batter. Arneson drops to 5-1 with the loss.

The Grizzlies (36-50) managed a pair of runs in the third. Brandon Peters drove in a run on a groundout, and another scored on a wild pitch. Alex Kerins singled in the seventh inning to drive in Jareck West who had doubled on at-bat earlier. Kerins finished 2-3 with the RBI. West was 1-3. Joseph Scaperotta had the only other hit for the Grizzlies. He was 1-4 with a first-inning single.

Grizzlies reliever Tom Vesely tossed five scoreless innings in relief of Arneson. Vesely allowed only two hits and struck out six. Scott Kelly pitched the final two innings, without allowing a run. He stuck out four, including fanning the side in order in the seventh.

The Grizzlies will begin a four-game series Friday night against the River City Rascals at T.R. Hughes Ballpark in O'Fallon, MO. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm.
