August 27, 2009 - Frontier League (FL)
Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti News Release
The Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti losing streak reached eight on a wet rainy gloomy night at Oestrike Stadium. The Florence Freedom put up four runs in the ninth innings to steal the sweep.
The Sliders jumped out to a fast start when they scored in the first inning. Florence starter Allan Donato struggled with control problems walking in the Sliders first run of the game.
Scott Van Es also came out firing; he set down the first eight batters he faced. It didn't last though, as the Freedom touched him up for four runs in 3 1/3 innings.
The Sliders tied up the game thanks to back to back doubles from Ryan Kennedy and Lee Rubin, Joash Brodin single tied the score at 4.
As the rain came down at Oestrike Stadium Zack Pace broke the tie in the bottom of the eighth with a one-out single through a drawn in infield to score Clay McCord.
Arshwin Asjes came on for the save in the ninth innings with a 5-4 lead. First up grounded out to shortstop and then Florence bats started flying. Three hits and three walks later the Freedom batted around to take a 8-5 lead.
Sliders comeback attempt failed in the bottom of the ninth after scoring a run they fell 8-6.
The Washington Wild Things come to EMU's Oestrike Stadium Friday as the Sliders will play their final home series of the season. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
