
Kalamazoo Holds Off Beach Bums In Final Road Tilt

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Traverse City Beach Bums dropped the final road game of the season on Thursday night, falling to the East Division leading Kalamazoo Kings 5-3.
John Alonso gave the Beach Bums an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Leading off the inning, Alonso delivered his 15th homer of the season to continue to add to his single season record total. He took a 3-2 offering from Kalamazoo starter Bernard Robert deep to left.
Kalamazoo used a big inning to open a 4-1 lead in the fourth. Joe Ramos worked a walk on eight pitches from Traverse City starter Brett Bostelman. Brendan Murphy put Kalamazoo in front with one swing, homering to center on a 1-0 offering. Amos Ramon singled with two outs and Matt Maloney followed with a double. Jett Ruiz drove in two with a single to round out the scoring in the inning.
The Kings chased Bostelman from the game with a light rain falling in the seventh. Brandon Anderson singled with one out and stole second and third before crossing the plate on a basehit by Joe Ramos to stretch the lead to 5-1. Bostelman tossed 6.2 innings in the game and allowed five runs on eight hits to go with a walk, a hit batman, and four strikeouts but took the loss, falling to 7-7.
Traverse City put the tying runs on base in the top of the eighth, scoring a pair to pull within 5-3. Michael Campbell led off with a double and scored when Andrew Franco singled with one out. Mike Victor singled and Anthony D'Alfonso was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Andrew Barbaro lifted a sacrifice fly to left but closer Dan Baerlocher posted a strikeout to end the threat.
Andrew Franco and Andrew Stafford led a 10-hit attack with a pair each.
The Beach Bums will open a nine-game homestand to finish the 2009 season tomorrow night against the Lake Erie Crushers at Wuerfel Park. RHP David Nathanson (6-9, 3.90) is scheduled to start for the Beach Bums against RHP Alberto Rolon (3-1, 3.60). First pitch is slated for 7:05pm on Elvis Night as Elvis impersonator Jake Slater will perform a concert before and after the game in addition to a song during the contest.
