Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies (13-7-3-1) defeated the Las Vegas Wranglers (13-4-1-1) 4-2 Wednesday night at Maverik Center.

Utah led 2-0 after one period on two Kevin Deeth (3,4) goals. Deeth backhanded home Utah's first goal as he picked up a lose puck in the neutral zone, got a step on a defender and beat goaltender Michael Ouzas. Deeth made it 2-0, knocking in a rebound on Utah's first power-play less than five minutes later at 16:03 of the period.

"You could just feel the sense of relief off everyone's shoulders," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "I know everyone really wants to win at home and it's a big two points to start this five-game home stand. The guys played well, and look forward to enjoying this and getting back to work on Friday."

Deeth added his third point of the night as Simon Ferguson fed Tim Crowder (8) on a two-on-one and Utah made it 3-0 3:23 into the second period.

As expected, the Wranglers fought back and made it 3-2. The Grizzlies though, killed a late penalty and Michael Gergen's first pro goal in a pile out in front gave Utah a 4-2 lead with 8:02 left in the game.

Andrew Engelage improved to 6-2-2-1 by stopping 25 of 27 Las Vegas shots.

The Grizzlies and Las Vegas meet again Friday at Maverik Center, before Victoria comes in Saturday. Face-off both evenings is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
