Alaska Aces News Release

Wes Goldie's first hat trick with the Alaska Aces was part of a season-high, offensive outburst Wednesday night as the Aces blew out the Stockton Thunder 8-3 at Sullivan Arena. The Aces set highs for goals, power-play goals, goals in a period, and goals by a player in the lopsided victory. Alaska scored five power play goals, including four on one major power play in the first period to set the tone of the game. The Aces improved to 13-9-1 on the year, and handed Stockton just their second road loss in regulation, and sixth overall. The clubs will return to complete the week of action at the Sully on Friday and Saturday night at 7:15pm. The Thunder scored first on a shorthanded breakaway from Mark Arcobello at 4:25. After Ethan cox tied the score on a turnaround shot from the slot less than a minute later, Alaska erupted on a major power play. With Chris Lawrence in the box for boarding, the Aces scored four times in 4:18 seconds to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Goldie started the stretch with a goal ten seconds after the penalty. Then Kory Falite, Bryan Miller, and Brian Swanson all followed with goals to make it 5-1 Aces after one period. Bryan Pitton was pulled and replaced by Garrett Zemlak after the Swanson goal.

Arcobello scored the only goal of the second period at 13:26 as the Thunder tried to close the gap, but the Aces returned to their offensive form in the third.

Goldie stole the puck 56 seconds into the third, and broke into the zone for his second goal of the night to make it 6-2 Aces. After an Anthony Aiello power play goal for Stockton, Goldie completed the hat trick, keeping Alaska comfortably ahead. Goldie took a pass from Scott Howes and wrapped around the net, tucking the puck into the cage for the Aces first hat trick of the season at 8:39. That made the score 7-3, and Swanson completed the scoring with a power play goal at 15:39 of the third for the Aces season-high, fifth power play goal of the game.

Gerald Coleman (9-7-1) made 29 saves on 32 shots for the win. Bryan Pitton (7-2-1) suffered the loss, making 8 saves on 13 shots. Zemlak (2-4-1) did not figure into the decision while stopping 18 of 21 shots. The Aces power play went 5-9, while the Thunder went 1-4. The Aces outshot the Thunder 34-32 in the game.

The Aces and Thunder will now have a Thursday off before returning for games Friday and Saturday at 7:15pm. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit them online at www.alaskaaces.com.
