Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies defeated the Las Vegas Wranglers 3-2 Wednesday night at Maverik Center.
The Grizzlies improved to 5-1-1-1 in their last eight contests and to 9-4-1-3 at Maverik Center.
"Obviously, it was a big win for us today," said Mathieu Aubin who scored Utah's first two goals. "We wanted it it, we needed it and we all worked as a team to get it."
The Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead 12:22 into the first period as Mathieu Aubin buried his seventh of the year.
"That play was unreal," said Aubin. "Pelech made that pass to O'Keefe and then he passed to me backdoor all alone. It was a great goal, it was really easy for me to put it in."
"The boys battled hard," said Grizzlies Head Coach/GM Tim Branham. "We made it a purpose to make sure that we came back and finished this game and I felt that we did a good job from the start. We just have to play a little bit better defensively. It was good that the power-play came through."
Las Vegas tied with a power-play goal in the first and took a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal in the second period.
The Grizzlies though tied the contest 61 seconds later and 11 seconds into a power-play at 8:47 of the second period. Mathieu Aubin scored another as he buried the goal from the left circle this time on a Phil Mangan rebound that was setup by Martin Lee.
Utah took a 3-2 lead that they would hold onto 1:48 into the third as Teigan Zahn snuck through the slot for his second goal of the year with seven seconds left on a power-play situation. David Vallorani and Jamie MacQueen picked up assists.
Aaron Dell improved to 7-2-0-1 by stopping 17 of 19 shots. Utah outshot Las Vegas 37-19.
The Grizzlies went two-for-six on the power-play in the game.
