NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 4, 2015) - The Chicago Cubs today assigned right-handed pitcher Justin Grimm to Triple-A Iowa on a major league rehab assignment. Grimm joined the club in Nashville and is active for this evening's matchup with the Sounds. In addition, left-hander Joe Ortiz was designated for assignment Sunday and is off the active roster.

Grimm, 26, did not appear in a game for Chicago despite breaking camp with the team. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on April 10, retroactive to April 2 with right forearm inflammation.

Grimm appeared in six games in Spring Training and went 0-1 with a 7.94 ERA (5ER/5.2IP). The right-hander walked three and struck out five.

Ortiz, 24, is 0-1 with one save and a 3.38 ERA (4 ER/10.2 IP) in eight relief appearances with Iowa this season.

With the designation of Ortiz, Iowa's active roster is at 23 players plus three major league rehab assignments and three players on the disabled list. Grimm joins left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada and right-hander Dallas Beeler as major league rehabbers on Iowa's current roster.

Iowa begins a four-game series tonight against the Sounds at First Tennessee Park in Nashville. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. CT. Left-hander Eric Jokisch (0-0, 5.25) is scheduled to start for Iowa opposite Sounds right-hander Arnold Leon (0-0, 7.56). The game can be heard live on AM 940, 104.5 FM, and live-streamed at Iowacubs.com. The On-Deck Circle Pre-game Show will begin at 6:40 p.m. CT.
