
Griffins Edge Wild 2-1 in OT

Des Moines, IA - The Iowa Wild (10-13-2-0, 22 points) were defeated by the Grand Rapid Griffins (20-5-1-1, 42 points) 2-1 in overtime in front of 3,619 fans at the Wells Fargo Arena on Wednesday. Griffins forward Cory Emmerton scored 3:52 into overtime lifting his club over the Wild. Griffins goalie Tom McCollum (10-3-0) made 30 saves as the Griffins improved to 10-2-1-1 on the road this season. Wild goalie Darcy Kuemper (6-10-0) stopped 28 of 29 shots in the overtime defeat. Iowa forward Zack Phillips scored the team's lone goal, as the Wild picked up a point for the third straight game, (2-0-1-0). Iowa continues a six-game homestand on Friday with a 7:05 p.m. meeting against the Hamilton Bulldogs.
After a scoreless first period, the Wild took a 1-0 lead at 4:27 of the second period with a goal by forward Zack Phillips. Iowa forward Warren Peters assisted on the play after firing the puck from the right wing circle on net. Phillips chipped in the rebound past Grand Rapids goalie Tom McCollum for his fifth goal of the season.
The Griffins tied it up 12:11 into the third period, with a goal by defenseman Brennan Evans. The Grand Rapids defender slapped in a one-timer past Iowa goalie Darcy Kuemper for the 1-1 score. Grand Rapids forwards Calle Jarnkrok and Teemu Pulkkinen each picked up an assist on the game-tying goal to force overtime.
3:52 into overtime, Griffins center Cory Emmerton beat Kuemper for his sixth goal of the season and a 2-1 victory. Mitch Callahan had an assist on the game-winning goal.
Iowa continues a six-game homestand with Hamilton on Friday, Dec. 20, San Antonio on Saturday, Dec. 21, and Rockford on Thursday, Dec. 26. Friday's game marks $2 Beer Night, where fans can purchase 10 oz. domestic drafts through the first period, presented by 100.3 FM The Bus. It is also Student Night, where students can purchase a $5 ticket by showing a high school or college ID at the Wells Fargo Arena box office. Saturday's game is Salvation Army Night, where fans may drop donations with Kettle Bearers. The game also features kids who participated in the team's *Wild About Reading* program. During next Thursday's game, fans are encouraged to sport an Ugly Holiday Sweater. Fans may also purchase the Subway Family Four Pack, which features four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas, and four Subway coupons starting at $44.
