Chicago Wolves News Release
Rosemont, Ill.---Rookie right wing Ty Rattie scored twice in the first period to set the tone for the Chicago Wolves to earn a 5-2 victory over Hamilton Wednesday afternoon during a School-Day Game at Allstate Arena.
Thousands of Chicago-area students also saw forwards Mark Mancari, Pat Cannone and Dmitrij Jaskin score for the Wolves (13-12-0-2) while Corey Locke, Brent Regner and Cade Fairchild registered two assists apiece.
"I think we played a solid game all-around," said Wolves head coach John Anderson. "Things went well for us even when we scored on ourselves."
Hamilton (12-13-0-3) scored the game's first goal at 10:47 of the first period without touching the puck. With the Wolves possessing the puck in the offensive zone, the officials called a delayed penalty on the Bulldogs. Wolves goaltender Jake Allen left the ice to give Chicago an extra attacker, but a Wolves pass banked off the extra attacker's skate and eased 140 feet down the ice into the unattended goal. Defenseman Morgan Ellis received credit for the tally.
The Wolves answered quickly on the power play as Rattie scored his team-leading 10th goal on a one-timer set up by Jaskin and Corey Locke at 11:43.
Rattie gave Chicago a 2-1 lead with 56 seconds left in the first. Locke gained possession of the puck in the neutral zone and fed it to Fairchild along the near boards. Fairchild delivered a perfect pass to Rattie slashing to the net and tipping it past Hamilton's Dustin Tokarski.
Hamilton made it 2-2 at 5:45 of the second on Jarred Tinordi's first goal of the year. His wrister from the left circle was set up by Sven Andrighetto's faceoff win.
The Wolves regained the lead on Mancari's goal from the doorstep at 8:28. Mancari rifled a slap shot that Pat Cannone chased down along the far boards and fed toward the net to Tyler Shattock, who backhanded the puck to Mancari for the score.
Cannone increased the margin at 14:55 when Regner and Fairchild passed the puck up the ice quickly and found Cannone a step ahead of Hamilton's defensemen at the blue line for a breakaway.
Jaskin made it 5-2 at 17:19 when he retrieved the puck in the corner and rifled a backhand off Tokarski's skate into the net. Regner and Bolduc picked up earned assists on the play.
Allen (11-7-2) stopped 18 of 19 shots to pick up the win. Tokarski (9-7-1) posted 19 saves in the first two periods and took the loss. Backup Mike Condon made 8 saves in the third.
The Wolves host defending Calder Cup champion Grand Rapids at 7 p.m. Saturday and Milwaukee for an Amtrak Rivalry game at 4 p.m. Sunday. For tickets to these games or to purchase specially priced Howliday 10-packs, call 1-800-THE-WOLVES or visit ChicagoWolves.com.
