Bulldogs Fall to Wolves 5-2

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - Three unanswered second period goals by the Chicago Wolves were the undoing of the Hamilton Bulldogs on Wednesday afternoon as the 'Dogs (12-13-0-3) fell 5-2 to the Wolves (13-12-0-2) at Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois.
Hamilton got on the board first at 10:47 of the opening period when, on a Bulldogs delayed penalty, the puck deflected off a Chicago Wolves player's skate, slid the length of the ice and into the Wolves' empty net. Defenceman Morgan Ellis was credited with his third goal of the season, unassisted and shorthanded.
Chicago answered right back on the subsequent power play when forward Ty Rattie batted a rebound out of the air and past Hamilton goaltender Dustin Tokarski. Forwards Dmitrij Jaskin and Corey Locke collected assists on the play.
The Wolves took a 2-1 lead with 56 seconds to go in the opening frame when Rattie rushed to the net and one-timed a Cade Fairchild pass past Tokarski. Fairchild and Locke earned assists on the play.
Bulldogs defenceman Jarred Tinordi drew the teams even at 2-2 with his first goal of the season 5:45 into the second period, with assists from defenceman Darren Dietz and forward Sven Andrighetto.
Chicago took a 3-2 lead 8:28 into the second frame with a goal by forward Mark Mancari, assisted by forwards Tyler Shattock and Pat Cannone.
At 14:55 of the second, Cannone made it a 4-2 game, with assists from Fairchild and defenceman Brent Regner.
With less than three minutes to go in the middle frame, Jaskin extended his team's lead to 5-2, with assists from Regner and forward Shane Harper.
Mike Condon took over in goal for Hamilton in the third period, but the goaltending change wasn't enough to spark the 'Dogs into a comeback, as 5-2 was as close as they would get.
Tokarski made 19 saves on 24 shots over two periods in the Bulldogs net and was credited with the loss. Condon stopped all eight shots he faced for the 'Dogs in relief. Allen made 18 saves on 19 shots for the Wolves in the win.
The Bulldogs went 0-for-7 on the power play, while the Wolves went 1-for-8.
