Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
GREENVILLE, SC-Brian Steinocher allowed just two runs over seven strong innings to pick up his 3rd win of the year as Greenville beat Lakewood 4-2 on Monday night.
It's the 2nd straight win for Greenville (24-27) to open this four-game series, and the BlueClaws (25-24) have now dropped three in a row after starting their road trip with three straight wins.
Steinocher (3-11) wins for the first time since May 25th, with Chris Province going the final two for his 2nd save of the year.
Greenville got on the board first with an RBI triple by Michael Jones off the 420 sign in center field with one out, but Darren Byrd was able to keep the lead at 1-0.
Gus Milner's 9th home run of the season tied the game at 1 in the fourth and the BlueClaws took the lead in the 5th when Quintin Berry singled in Doug Morales, who had doubled with one out.
Berry went 2-4 in the game and is 24-54 (.444) in the month of August, while Milner, who also had a double, is 11-23 on the current road trip with extra-base hits in four straight games.
Aaron Reza's RBI groundout tied it in the bottom of the 5th and the next inning, Paul Smyth drove in Josh Reddick, who had singled and stolen 2nd base, with a run-scoring single and Greenville had the lead right back.
Darren Byrd (7-10) came out after six after allowing three runs. Byrd had won his previous two starts without allowing an earned run.
Brian Schlitter allowed an insurance run when Michael Jones finished off three straight singles for the Drive and they had a 4-2 lead in the 8th.
Game three of the series is Tuesday night at 7:00, as Lakewood sends LHP Antonio Bastardo (8-0, 1.68) to the hill against LHP Ryan Phillips (3-2, 2.50).
NOTE: The BlueClaws played the game without manager Steve Roadcap, who was ejected during the exchange of the line-up cards. Joe Alvarez managed in his place.
