October 12, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Greenville Road Warriors wrap up their 2010 preseason schedule with a home date against the South Carolina Stingrays tonight at 7:05 p.m. ET.
The Road Warriors enter action this evening looking for their first win of the preseason. Last week, just two days into their inaugural training camp the Road Warriors opened exhibition play against the Florida Everblades. In the first game on Friday, October 8 the teams traded goals back-and-forth and were tied at three heading into the third period. Like heavyweight fighters trading haymakers, the Road Warriors and Everblades scored in bunches and combined for five goals in the frame. Vlady Nikiforov netted the eventual game winner as Florida triumphed 6-5. Matt Schepke had the big night for the Road Warriors with two goals.
On Saturday, October 9 the Road Warriors and Everblades met again in another close game. Florida, on the back of three second period goals, jumped out to a 4-0 lead and almost carried that advantage into the second intermission. Greenville fought back with a goal from David Strathman with only 20 seconds left in the period. Andrew Carroll trimmed the lead down even further with a third period marker, but the Road Warriors couldn't complete the comeback despite out-shooting the Everblades 17-4 in the third.
Tonight marks South Carolina's only preseason game before the Stingrays open their season on Friday, October 22 against Gwinnett. The Road Warriors and Stingrays were scheduled to open the regular season against one another on October 15, but a building conflict at the North Charleston Coliseum postponed the game until November 16. The Road Warriors and Stingrays will meet 17 times during the regular season.
Mark your calendars! The Road Warriors, ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers, kick off their inaugural season on Thursday, October 21 against the Florida Everblades at 7:05 p.m. ET. Individual tickets are on sale now and available through the BI-LO Center Box Office or through Ticketmaster.
