
Aces Trade for All-Star Maxime Tanguay

Anchorage, AK; October 12, 2010 - The Alaska Aces have acquired the rights to All-Star forward, Maxime Tanguay from the Elmira Jackals in exchange for future considerations, and the rights to defenseman Steve Ward from the Florida Everblades to complete an earlier deal, Head Coach Brent Thompson announced on Tuesday. Tanguay was an ECHL rookie sensation last season, leading the Toledo Walleye in points. Ward was one of the top defensemen with the Charlotte Checkers. The Aces open the 2010-2011 regular season this Friday and Saturday night when they host the Utah Grizzlies. On Friday, fans in attendance will receive free GCI magnetic schedules, and on Saturday Fred Meyer Autograph Books will be given out to fans at the game. Tanguay, 21, took the ECHL by storm last year pacing Toledo with 69 points (25g, 44a) in 66 games. He punctuated his rookie campaign with an All-Star selection, and finished third in the race for ECHL Rookie of the Year. His 69 points were third highest among rookies, and 13th overall in league scoring. The 5'11", 180 lbs. Tanguay was a third round selection (69th overall) of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2007 NHL Draft. The native of Lac Etchemin, Quebec played his junior hockey in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, splitting time between Victoriaville, Rimouski, and Chicoutimi. During the off-season Tanguay's rights were acquired by Elmira.
Ward, 24, is entering his fourth pro season, having spent the majority of his career in the ECHL. In his 207 game career, Ward has played 160 ECHL contests with 47 at the American Hockey League level. Last year Ward led all Checkers defenseman with 21 assists. He added six goals for 27 points in 70 games. The 5'11", 185 lbs. Scarborough, Ontario native spent extensive time in the AHL in his first two seasons. As a rookie in 2007-2008, Ward played 28 games for the Albany RiverRats. The following season he played a combined 19 AHL games for Albany, San Antonio, Norflok, and Portland. His pro totals feature 16 goals, 64 assists, and 80 points in 207 games. His acquisition completes an earlier deal with Florida sending the rights of former Aces forward, Alex Imbeault. In additional camp news, the Aces released defensemen Kyle Raftis and Mads Schaarup.
