Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Intimidators matched their longest winning streak of the season, taking their seventh in a row on Monday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, 7-1 over the Greensboro Grasshoppers.

Kannapolis used just five hits to post their seven runs, as Greensboro chipped in nine walks and hit a batter. Starter Brad Hand (6-12) had the hardest time finding the strike zone, as the 19-year-old southpaw walked a season-high seven in 4 1/3 innings. Hand gave up five runs, three earned, in his brief time on the mound.

The Kannapolis offense gave James Albury (2-0) all the help that he would need, as the Intimidators starter cruised through six one-run innings. The Australian righy kept the ‘Hoppers off balance all night long, inducing six pop outs to infielders.

The Intimidators took the early lead against Hand with a pair of runs in the second inning. Kannapolis did not use a hit in the rally, as he walked five in the frame, including Kenny Williams with the bases loaded.

The Greensboro offense has now been held to just one run over their last 19 innings at the plate. The lone run came on a Thomas Hickman solo home run in the top of the third off of Albury, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

Kyle Shelton put the game away in the fifth, driving in a pair of runs with a bases-loaded double to chase Hand from the game.
