Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Eastlake, OH - The Augusta GreenJackets couldn't recover from a five-run Lake County Captains onslaught in the first inning en route to an 8-2 loss on Tuesday night in a series and road trip opener from Classic Park.

After recording the first out of the inning, Orlando Yntema allowed the next six hitters to reach on a walk and five hits. The big blow came on a three-run home run by Karexon Sanchez to put the Captains on top 4-0. Nate Recknagel's RBI single started the uprising while John Allman's run-scoring double pushed Lake County's lead to five.

Yntema (0-2) struggled through four innings, allowing five runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts. The GreenJackets offense struggled to sustain rallies, stranding eight men on base and going one for nine with runners in scoring position. Augusta hit into two double plays.

Josh Mazzola pulled the GreenJackets to within four with a two-run home run in the eighth inning to put Augusta on the scoreboard. Johnny Monell struck out to end the inning with a man on second and that was as close as the Jackets would pull. RBI singles by Mark Thompson and Bo Greenwell of the Captains pushed the lead back to six as the GreenJackets went quietly in the ninth.

Danny Salazar (5-4) fired 5.1 scoreless innings of four-hit baseball, walking two and striking out three in the win.

In game two of the series, Ohio native Eric Surkamp (7-5, 3.58) takes the mound in his home state to face Trey Haley (3-6, 5.49) on Wednesday night. First pitch from Classic Park comes at 7:05 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on WRDW AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
