Augusta scored six runs in the first four innings, four coming on two-out base hits, as the GreenJackets doubled up the Charleston RiverDogs, 6-3, in South Atlantic League action Thursday night in front of 5,045 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

The GreenJackets have taken two of first three from the RiverDogs in this four-game series and improve to 13-15 on the season. Charleston, which drops back-to-back games for only the third time this season, slips to 20-7. The RiverDogs have lost four of six since an 18-3 start to the season.

Third baseman Andrew Davis collected three hits and drove home a pair of runs, leading an Augusta attack that pounded out 13 base knocks on the night. Ten of those came in the first four innings, and eight came against Charleston starter Lance Pendleton (1-2), who was charged with five runs in three frames.

Augusta starter T. J. Brewer (2-2) went six full innings and allowed three runs (only one earned) on five hits. Closer Daniel Turpen, in working the final two outs in the ninth, earned his fourth save of the season with a pair of strikeouts.

For the second consecutive night, fans barely got into their seats before Augusta pushed two quick runs across the plate. After Pendleton retired the first two batters, Thomas Neal singled and scored on Garrett Baker's triple to right center. Baker scored on Davis' single to right, handing the GreenJackets a quick 2-0 lead.

Charleston knotted the score in their half of the first when Carmen Angelini and Justin Snyder connected on consecutive one-out singles. Jesus Montero then hit a grounder to the shortstop Charlie Culberson, who booted it into shallow right field allowing both runners to score.

The GreenJackets took the lead for good in the second when Jackson Williams opened the inning with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. James Simmons then doubled to right center, scoring Williams and giving Augusta a 3-2 advantage.

The visitors extended the lead to 5-2 in the third when Nick Noonan opened with a double down the left field line and Neal drew a walk from Pendleton. Davis singled through the right side to drive home Noonan, and Neal later scored when Williams singled to left center.

Augusta scored its sixth run in the fifth with two outs when Noonan singled, stole second and scored on Neal's RBI single against reliever Jesse Hoover.

The RiverDogs cut the lead to 6-3 in the fifth when Austin Krum drew a leadoff walk off Brewer and moved to second on Abraham Almonte's single. When Angelini reached on a fielder's choice, Krum moved to third base and later scored on Snyder's sacrifice fly to left field.

Charleston collected eight hits on the night, and the RiverDogs stranded eight runners. In the two consecutive losses to Augusta, the RiverDogs have left 21 runners on base.

Joining Davis with multiple hits for Augusta were Noonan, Neal, Williams and Simmons with two each. Charleston was paced offensively by Angelini and Snyder with a pair of hits each.

Charleston will attempt to salvage a split in the series as the final contest of this four-game block is set for Friday at 7:05 p.m. Charleston will send righty Noel Castillo (3-1, 2.51 ERA) to the mound while Augusta is expected to start southpaw Craig Clark (1-0, 2.84 ERA).
