Columbus, GA- Alex Cobb led the Columbus Catfish to an impressive win over the Asheville Tourists Thursday night at Golden Park, snapping a 7-game winning streaking for the visiting team. Cobb earned his fourth win of the season by posting an impressive stat line of 6 innings pitched, 6 strikeouts, 4 hits and 0 runs allowed, and also lowered his team leading ERA from 1.98 to 1.62.
A walk to Cody Cipriano to leadoff the bottom half of the fifth frame, followed by a bunt single off of the bat of Maiko Loyola, put 2 runners on for Greg Sexton who came to the plate and promptly hit a double to score both Catfish. Columbus added more runs in the very next inning, as singles from Henry Wrigley, Omar Luna, Emeel Salem, and Maiko Loyola plated 2 more runs to make the game 4-0.
The Catfish bullpen held down the fort for Cobb in the final 3 innings, as fresh âFish Austin Hinkle and Jose Mejias combined to only allow 1 hit, 3 walks, and 0 earned runs between the 2 of them, to give Columbus their twelfth win and bring their season total to 12-15.
Columbus and Asheville complete their 4-game series Friday night at Golden Park, with first pitch at 7 P.M.. Scheduled starters are Glenn Gibson (1-3, 7.89) for the Catfish and Connor Graham (3-2, 2.96) for the Tourists.
