Salisbury, Md.- The Shorebirds jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and it looked like the ‘Birds would race past the Legends for the third straight time. The final eight innings were a different story, however, as Lexington used two major offensive onslaughts to surge past Delmarva on Thursday night, 9-5.

Shorebird starter Cole McCurry wheeled and dealed his way through the first three innings, as the home team took a 2-0 lead into the fourth. But a combination of control issues, defensive miscues, and the Lexington Legends lumber produced major disasters in the fourth and the fifth. Lexington batted around in each frame, scoring four in the fourth and five in the fifth. Those two innings would be plenty of offense for Legend starter Leandro Cespedes, who earned his first victory of the season after settling down from his first-inning woes.

Delmarva first baseman Anthony Martinez registered three of the Shorebirds eight hits, including a monstrous two-run blast in the eight inning, his second home run of the year. Matt Tucker added two doubles, but the Shorebird offense was largely subdued for much of the evening.

The defeat snapped the Birds' two-game winning streak and set the stage for the series finale on Friday. Delmarva strives to win three-of-four from Lexington, while the Legends hope to salvage a series draw after dropping the first two games in dramatic fashion, both Shorebird walk-off victories on Tuesday and Wednesday.
