Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Charleston, SC - The GreenJackets took out some of their frustration in their first two losses against the Charleston RiverDogs with a four run first inning that saw Augusta send ten men to the plate. The GreenJackets won 8-4 and will look for the series split with a win on Saturday.
After Nick Liles led off the first with a single and Ryan Cavan doubled, Chris Dominguez knocked in a run to give the GreenJackets their first lead of the series. After a Luke Anders walk loaded the bases, Tommy Joseph drilled a two-run double into the left field corner to put the Jackets up by three. Ryan Lollis brought in another on a groundout to make it a 4-0 first inning lead off Kelvin Perez, who entered the game with the second-best ERA in the league.
Luke Murton brought in a run on a first inning groundout to make it a 4-1 game before the GreenJackets added more in the third. Lollis tripled to score a run and came home on a perfectly executed suicide squeeze bunt by Eliezer Zambrano to put the Jackets up five.
Chris Heston fought through six innings to get his second win of the year, allowing three runs and scattering eight hits. Heston (2-3) walked one and struck out four in his first win since April 14th. He was touched up again in the third after back-to-back hits put runners on second on third with no one out. Rob Lyerly brought a run in on a groundout and with two strikes and two outs on DeAngelo Mack, Heston's only wild pitch brought home Charleston's third run of the game.
Chris Dominguez's two-run home run in the sixth inning put some distance between the Jackets and the âDogs. Luke Murton doubled home one for Charleston in the seventh to bring the RiverDogs to within four but they could get no closer. Ryan Verdugo struck out five in the last two innings to finish the job for the GreenJackets.
Perez (2-1) was rocked for the first time this season, allowing six runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts in three innings of work. Three GreenJackets runs crossed the plate before a single out was recorded.
Jorge Bucardo (1-2, 2.53) takes the ball for the GreenJackets in the series and road trip finale to face Shaeffer Hall (2-1, 1.79) on Saturday night. First pitch from Joseph P. Riley Park will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
