Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

After four straight victories and reaching two games above .500 for the first time this season the Kannapolis Intimidators took a step back against the Delmarva Shorebirds as they dropped game three of the four game series by the score of 10-4 on Friday night.

The Intimidators (18-17) scored first in the game as Kyle Colligan tripled to left and was brought home on an RBI groundout by Brady Shoemaker to make it 1-0 in the second inning. The Intimidators held that lead until the third inning when starter Cameron Bayne fell into trouble.

Bayne (2-5) allowed three singles to lead off the inning before a bases loaded single by Tyler Stampone got through the legs of the leftfielder Shoemaker and nearly reached the wall. Two extra runs scored on that error as well as an additional run on a sacrifice fly, so four runs, two earned came in on Bayne in the third to make it 4-1.

The Shorebirds (17-17) added another run in the fourth before the Intimidators began a mini-comeback in the fifth. The Intimidators got a single from Jose Vargas, who went 3-for-4, a walk by Kevin Dubler and an RBI-double by Jake Oester. Dubler then scored on a sacrifice fly to make it a 5-3 ballgame.

The two-run lead was short-lived as the Shorebirds added to their advantage in the seventh with a run and in the eighth with four more as they had the bases loaded with no one out in the eighth. All told, the Shorebirds belted out 17 hits, Brian Conley went 4-for-4, and scored ten runs in their victory.

The Shorebirds starter Jesse Beal went seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits with three strikeouts. Beal (3-2) worked relatively well and was able to go deep in the ballgame. Drew O'Neil for the Intimidators came on in relief and allowed five runs, four earned and six hits in an inning-plus.

The Intimidators look to begin a new winning streak on Saturday as the reigning Pitcher of the Week Matt Wickswat (3-3) takes to the hill in a battle of lefties with Tony Butler (1-3) at 7:05 pm.
