HICKORY, NC - The Hickory Crawdads split the series with the Greensboro Grasshoppers after falling, 9-3, on Friday night before 1,540 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium.

The Crawdads (14-7) got on the board right away in the bottom of the first inning against RHP Jose Urena (W, 2-1). With one away, SS Luis Sardinas singled to center field and quickly stole second base. One out later, DH Hanser Alberto drove in Sardinas with an RBI single, making it 1-0.

However, Greensboro (14-7) responded with a five-run rally in the top of the second against RHP Luke Jackson (L, 2-1). With 1B Aaron Senne at first base and no outs, 3B Josh Adams and RF James Wooster clubbed consecutive RBI doubles for the 2-1 lead. After a sacrifice bunt moved Wooster to third, CF Brent Keys singled him in to make it 3-1. SS Ryan Goetz was then hit by a pitch, putting runners at first and second. C Austin Barnes plated them both with a two-run double, stretching the lead to 5-1.

The Grasshoppers tacked on tallies in the fourth on an RBI single by Barnes, in the sixth on an RBI base hit by Goetz and in the seventh with a solo shot by Senne, moving in front, 8-1. Greensboro dealt it's final blow in the top of the eighth inning when a DH Ryan Rieger sacrifice fly scored Keys from third for the 9-1 lead.

Hickory cut into the lead in the bottom of the eighth against RHP Austin Brice (S, 1). With two away and the bases clear, LF Jeremy Williams extended the inning with a single. 3B Drew Robinson then hammered a two-run homer over the right-field wall, pulling the 'Dads within six runs. Brice, though, navigated through the remainder of the eighth, as well as the ninth, with no further damage, closing the 9-3 win for the Grasshoppers.
