Six-Run Ninth Inning Leads to Rome Loss

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves loss to the Hagerstown Suns 9-3 Friday night at State Mutual Stadium in front of 3,291 fans. Hagerstown was on the board first with two runs in the first inning on an RBI groundout by Matthew Skole and an RBI double by Steven Souza. The Braves answered in the bottom of the second after Reyes doubled and later scored on a fielding error by the shortstop Jason Martinson for the 2-1 score. The Braves tied the game 2-2 in the sixth inning on back to back triples by Edison Sanchez and Jakob Dalfonso. Rome would take the lead in the seventh on an RBI two out single by Brandon Drury for a 3-2 advantage.The Braves lead was short lived as the bullpen couldn't keep the lead and gave up a run in the eighth and six runs in the ninth, highlighted by a ninth inning grand slam by Justin Miller for the 9-3 lead. The Braves would go quietly in the ninth for the 9-3 final.

RHP Aaron Barrett (2-0) would record the win for Hagerstown and kept the Braves hitless in two innings of relief. Yean Carlos Gil (0-2) recorded the loss for the Braves after coming into relieve starter David Filak in the sixth inning. In five innings of work, Filak only allowed two hits, no earned runs and struck out five.

The Braves face the Kannapolis Intimidators Saturday night at 7PM in the first contest of a three game series.
