
Grasshoppers Shred Shorebirds 13-3 in Series Finale

Salisbury, Md. - The Greensboro Grasshoppers scored eight runs in the fourth inning to sprint past the Shorebirds 13-3 in the series finale at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Monday night. The Shorebirds dropped their second series of the year and first since Kannapolis swept them between April 11 and 14.
Greensboro built an early lead in the first inning. Noah Perio singled and stole second. Two batters later, Ryan Fisher tripled to right-center field to bring home Perio. Then, Christian Yelich grounded out to second to score Fisher, which gave the Grasshoppers a 2-0 advantage.
The Shorebirds responded with a run of their own in the first. Ty Kelly started the inning with a single. Then, Jonathan Schoop extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a double off the left field wall to plate Kelly from first.
The Shorebirds took their only lead of the night in the third. Brenden Webb opened the inning with a single. Two batters later, Ty Kelly slapped a double down the left field line to score Webb from first base to tie the game at 2-2. Then, Kelly stole third base and scored on a low throw by the catcher Aaron Dudley.
The lead was short lived. The Grasshoppers sent 12 batters to the plate in the fourth inning and recorded six hits and eight runs. Ryan Fisher, Marcell Ozuna and James Wooster each had two-run hits in the fourth.
The Grasshoppers coasted to a victory after the big inning.
Grasshoppers starter Kyle Winters earned the win in six innings. He allowed six hits and two earned runs. Greensboro relievers Chris Shafer and Jordan Conley held the 'Birds scoreless over the final three innings.
The Shorebirds open a three-game series against Lakewood on Tuesday, May 17 at 7:05 p.m. LHP Jacob Pettit is the scheduled starter.
