Hagerstown Suns News Release

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The South Atlantic League announced today that Hagerstown Suns LHP Robbie Ray was named Pitcher of the Week for May 9-15, 2011. Ray's two starts during this week were his first of the season.

Ray holds a 1-0 record in two starts and has yet to surrender a run. The lefty allowed three hits in 11 innings and struck out 13 while walking just one. Opposing batters are hitting .081 (3-for-37) against Ray.

Ray, 19, was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 12th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of Brentwood (Tenn.) High School. Ray appeared in one game with the Vermont Lake Monsters of the New York-Penn League last season, striking out two in one inning of work.

This is the third week a Hagerstown player has received South Atlantic League honors this season. Right-hander Cameron Selik earned Pitcher of the Week honors for April 18-24 before being promoted to the Potomac Nationals, and outfielder Bryce Harper was named Player of the Week for May 2-8.
