Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX - Your Amarillo Gorillas fended off the defending league champions Friday night, scoring the victory over the Texas Brahmas 4-3.
The opening period was a goaltending show, as Amarillo's Mike Brown and Texas' Joe Palmer stood on their heads, stopping all 23 combined shots. Texas would receive the only power-plays of the period, going 0-2. At the end of one period of play, Amarillo 0 Texas 0.
Amarillo broke the game open in the second, finding the twine three times. Goals from unlikely suspects such as defensemen James Jernberg & Rod Aldoff along with the newest Gorillas forward Jason Beeman gave Amarillo the comfortable lead. At the end of two, Amarillo 3 Texas 0.
The Brahmas made the comeback in the third, scoring three unanswered goals to tie the game at three at the 9:28 mark. AJ Gale earned two goals while Pete Rouleau added another. The Gorillas wouldn't back down, as forward Jake Morissette rocketed a shot from the near circle and beat Texas goaltender Joel Palmer with 2:01 remaining in regulation. Amarillo would foil the Texas attack at the end and collected their sixth victory of the season, winning 4-3.
