Friday, December 19, 2008 - 7:05 PM - AMARILLO CIVIC CENTER

LAST WEEK: Amarillo went 1-2-0 in games played last week. They lost on Tuesday night at Odessa, 5-2. After two days off, the Gorillas played at the Budweiser Event Center against the Colorado Eagles. Amarillo emerged with their first-ever victory in eleven tries at the venue, 5-3. On Saturday, the Gorillas returned home to face the Corpus Christi IceRays, dropping the game 7-1.
THIS SEASON: On the season, Amarillo is 7-15-0. They went 3-2-0 in a five-game road trip that came to an end last Friday.
RECENTLY: Amarillo is 1-3-0 against the New Mexico Scorpions this season, winning their last game against their division rival 6-3 in Rio Rancho on December 6. They are 1-0-0 against Rapid City, winning their only contest against the Rush on November 7, 6-3. Amarillo has yet to play the RiverKings in 2008-09-their only contest against their cross-conference rival will be Saturday.
NO KIDDIN' AROUND: Amarillo has not won in a Kid's Day Game since November of 2003, when they won at New Mexico 3-1. They have been defeated by a combined score of 13-1 in their last two such games (against Laredo and Odessa, respectively). When they play at New Mexico on Tuesday, it will be the third time in franchise history the Gorillas have skated in a day game against the Scorpions.
LET IT SNOW: John Snowden, acquired by the Gorillas in mid-November, has been a key asset for the club since arriving in the Texas Panhandle. The winger has been playing on Amarillo's top line alongside Stuart MacRae and Joe Guenther, scoring 13 points in twelve games with his new team. Snowden has points in seven straight contests, and tallied his second three-point outing of the season when he collected three assists last Friday against Colorado.
NET WORTH: The Gorillas' situation in net became much clearer after the acquisition of Mike Gorman in early November. The veteran goaltender is third on the all-time CHL wins chart with 166 wins, and leads active goaltenders in the category. He needs just 22 wins to surpass Tony Martino for second, and 29 wins to surpass Rod Branch for first on the all-time CHL wins list.
LONG TIME COMIN': It has been quite some time since the Gorillas and the RiverKings last played each other. Since March 17, 2005 the Gorillas and Memphis/Mississippi have not skated against one another-that will change on Saturday, as the teams renew acquaintances at the Amarillo Civic Center.
CLEARING THE ZONE: Amarillo is the third-least penalized team in the league with just 21.4 penalty minutes taken per game...Amarillo has won just one weekday game in 2008-09, going 1-3-0 in four contests...they have scored a total of eight goals during those games...the Gorillas have not won consecutive road games all season.
