December 15, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
1- Corpus Christi veteran center Chris Richards moved into the top five on the CHL's all-time assist list with the fourth and final assist he registered in Saturday's win at Amarillo. The Cornwall, Ontario native has 448 helpers moving past Brett Seguin (447 assists). Richards (currently sixth) should move past Hardy Sauter within the next few games on the league's all-time point's list as he currently is sitting two points behind the long-time Blazer. In his career, Richards has 219 goals, 448 assists and 667 points. Over the last three plus seasons, Richards has 308 points in 211 games (with Youngstown and Corpus Christi).
2- The Rocky Mountain Rage (8-11-2, 18 points) have steadily climbed back into playoff contention and are approaching the .500 mark after going 7-4-1 in their last 12 games. The Rage are currently tied with Rapid City for second place in the Northwest Division and have a pair of games this week with the Rush starting with Tuesday night in South Dakota. The Rage and goaltender Marty Magers played a classic on Saturday night with a 1-0 shootout win at Wichita. Magers finished with 31 saves in the shutout and helped his team stop all 10 power play chances by the Thunder. Wichita's Tim Boron also earned a shutout stopping 28 shots, despite taking the loss.
3- The Oklahoma City Blazers (16-4-2, 34 points) and the Colorado Eagles (18-4-0, 36 points) will meet for the second time this season on Wednesday night except this time it will be at the Budweiser Events Center in Colorado. The first meeting was won by the Eagles in a shootout on October 26th by a 2-1 score. The two teams each have a large lead in their respective divisions (Colorado by 18 points and OKC by six points). Colorado is the top offensive team in the league (4.64 goals per game) and the Blazers are number one defensively allowing just 1.86 goals per game. The Blazers last game, a 5-3 loss to Tulsa, marked the first time this season that OKC has allowed more than three goals in a game.
