Arizona Sundogs News Release

The Arizona Sundogs are coming off a season-long seven-game road trip that saw them play seven games in 12 days. Arizona completed their road swing going 2-5-0 against opponents in Texas and Colorado. The Sundogs look to improve on their 10-15-1 record with three-straight against the Texas Brahmas beginning on Wednesday, Dec. 17. Arizona sits in second place in the Southwest Division and sixth place overall in the Southern Conference. The Brahmas are 13-7-3 and sit in second place in the Southeast Division and third place overall in the Southern Conference.

Sundogs Storylines:

- The Sundogs and Colorado Eagles matched a CHL record with a combined 10 power play goals in the Sundogs 7-5 loss to the Eagles on Saturday, Dec. 13. Both teams finished 5-for-12 with the man advantage.

- Martin Gascon ranks second in scoring for Arizona with 31 points (7g/24a). His 24 assists rank third in the CHL and first among his teammates. The Ville St. Pierre, Quebec, native is riding a six-game point streak, having tallied 11 points (2g/9a) in that span.

- Joel Irving leads the Sundogs in goals (17) and points (37). He also ranks second in the CHL in goals and points. Irving is currently riding a seven-game point streak, having recorded 15 points (5g/10a) over that time. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound forward recorded five points (2g/3a) in a 7-5 loss to Colorado on 12/13.

- Forward Karl Sellan has led the CHL in PIMs since the start of the season (203). With four goals in his last three games, the Montreal, Quebec, native has 16 on the year which is good enough for second on the Sundogs and tied for fourth overall in the CHL.

- The Sundogs lead the CHL in a number of categories including assists (183), points (284), penalty minutes (789), minors (237), majors (37), 10-minute misconducts (7) and shorthanded goals against (8).

- As the oldest player in the CHL at the age of 38, Sundogs veteran and Captain Chris Bartolone has been his usual productive self this season, potting five points in the last six games, including his second, third and fourth goals of the season. On the season, the Clinton Township, Mich., native has scored four goals and added 17 assists for 21 points overall. All four goals and 10 of his helpers have come on the power play. The veteran defenseman ranks sixth overall and first among d-men in team scoring. Bartolone is third in the CHL in scoring among defensemen.

- Adam Perry was assigned to the Sundogs by the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL and joined the team on 11/19 in Odessa. The 21-year-old rookie out of Peterborough, Ontario made an immediate impact on the offensive end, scoring his first pro goal in his Sundogs debut, a 7-4 win in Odessa. Perry has posted 23 points (11g/12a) in 13 games, with points in 11 of 13 contests. Adam's older brother Corey plays for the Anaheim Ducks, and was the 28th overall draft pick in the 2003 NHL draft.

- The Sundogs are perfect in shootouts this season, having won all three appearances this season. Arizona beat Odessa by a 4-3 margin on 11/1, knocked off Corpus Christi on 11/8 by a final score of 3-2 and beat Rocky Mountain 5-4 last Wednesday. Joel Irving's fifth round goal sealed the win in Odessa, while Mark Kolanos notched the game winner in the sixth round against Corpus Christi. Karl Sellan sealed the win last Wednesday, getting the only goal of the shootout as Arizona went 1-4 while Rocky Mountain was thwarted five times by Sundog goalie Marco Emond. Last year, Arizona went 1-2 when the game went to a shootout. The Sundogs are 6-11 on shootout attempts this year.
