Amarillo Gorillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Southwest Division has a new king of the hill and it's the Amarillo Gorillas following their 4-2 win over the Tulsa Oilers at the Cal Farley Coliseum Saturday night. With the win, the Gorillas improved to 17-14-3 overall and are now in first place in the Southwest Division with 37 standings points. They leapfrogged Odessa who lost earlier Saturday 6-0 to the Memphis Riverkings. The New Mexico could jump into a tie for first place in the division if they defeat Colorado either in regulation time or overtime.

Bill Vandermeer scored a pair of goals and Shawn Conschafter picked up his 7th win of the season as he turned away 28 of Tulsa's 30 chances. Austin Sutter and Chris Lipsett also scored for Amarillo. Sutter's goal extended his point streak to 6 consecutive games. The Red Deer, Alberta native has now picked up 6 goals and 2 assists in his last 6 contests. Bill Newson and David Beauregard scored the only goals for the Oilers who dropped their 6th game in their last 7 tries.

The Gorillas are back in action this Thursday morning as they head to New Mexico to take on the Scorpions in a special 10:35 AM start time.
