Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Hidalgo, Texas - The Rocky Mountain Rage could not capitalize on an early 2-0 lead and fell to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, 5-2, at Dodge Arena. The Rage remain winless over their last seven games and drop to 8-22-4 with 20 points in the standings.
Chip Dunleavy got Rocky Mountain off to a flying start when he kept the puck himself on a two-on-one and finished for his ninth goal of the year at 4:42 of the opening period. The Rage kept rolling on their first power play of the game as John DiPace took a feed from Dunleavy and scored off a wrap-around, moving the visitors in front, 2-0, at 12:19. Rio Grande Valley got off the deck quickly, though, and responded less than a minute later at 13:12 when Doug Orr found the back of the net.
Still leading 2-1 entering the second, Rocky Mountain was unable to sustain the advantage in the middle frame. Orr scored his second of the night at 10:19 to tie the game at two before the Bees moved in front to stay at 15:57 off a tally from Jason Cirone.
Rio Grande Valley picked up an insurance goal on the power play at 4:30 of the third from Rob Voltera and then put the game out of reach at 5:40 when Dennis Maxwell scored from the right circle.
The Rage, who return home on Tuesday, Jan. 23, to host the defending President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks at Broomfield Event Center at 7:05 p.m., are still looking for their first win of the New Year. They are 0-6-1 since a New Year's Eve win over the Oklahoma City Blazers and have lost a season-high five games in a row in regulation.
