Bucks Fall 4-3 In Shootout To Wichita

LAREDO, Texas - The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks fell 4-3 in a shootout to the visiting Wichita Thunder in front of 5,559 fans at the LEC on Saturday night. Thunder goalie Sebastien Laplante was tremendous in net as he kept his team in the game and keyed the comeback victory for the visitors. The Bucks have scored a standings point in three straight games and 11 of their last 12. Laredo is a Southern Conference best 24-9-3 with 51 points and they lead the Southeast Division by eight points. The Bucks spend the next six games on the road. The Thunder scored first capitalizing on a four minute power play chance. Forward Travis Clayton snapped home a wrist shot from the slot at 8:23. It was his 294th career goal tying him for third all-time on the CHL goal scoring list. Laredo came back to tie the game on a power play chance of their own. Forward Igor Agarunov cut behind the net then found rookie forward Chris Korchinski all alone in front for a slam dunk wrist shot at 14:56. It was the 16th of the season for Korchinski. The Bucks out shot the Thunder 19-5 in the period.

Laredo took their first lead of the game in the second period. Agarunov came out of the penalty box and led a three-on-one rush down the right side where he finished it off with a snap shot that crawled up the shoulder of Laplante and into the net at 6:48. It was the 11th of the season for Agarunov. Later in the period with a delayed call coming up the Bucks scored again. Defenseman Steve Weidlich teed up a one-timer from the point that was deflected into the net by Agarunov for his second of the game at 18:50 and a 3-1 Laredo lead. The Bucks out shot the Thunder 17-2 in the period.

The Thunder came out firing in the third period. Forward Jason Duda scored shorthanded just :13 seconds into the frame to bring Wichita within 3-2. Clayton then scored his second of the game on a power play redirection at 5:51 to tie it at 3-3. Neither team scored down the stretch and the game headed to sudden death overtime. Each team managed a shot in overtime, but both were unable to score.

In the shootout Wichita forward Ryan Lauzon scored the only goal as the Thunder completed their comeback win. FINAL SCORE Wichita 4, Laredo 3 in a shootout.

Eric Marvin stopped 16 of 19 shots, and three of four in the shootout, but fell to 13-4-3 . Laplante was fabulous stopping 46 of 49 shots, then all five in the shootout to get the win and improve to 11-8-3. The Bucks went 1-8 on the power play while Wichita was 2-6. Laredo out shot the Thunder 49-20.
