Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Loveland, CO - The Amarillo Gorillas of the Central Hockey League (CHL) were unable to come up with back-to-back wins for the first time this year, as they fell to the Colorado Eagles 6-5 at the Budweiser Events Center after knocking off the Wichita Thunder 5-3 in Amarillo on Wednesday.

The Gorillas started the scoring off quickly in this contest when Jason Chafe scored a shorthanded goal at 1:37 of the first. The Gorillas would be down 2-1 after the first however, as Steve Haddon and Paul Esdale both scored and Colorado outshot Amarillo 24-13 in the period.

In the second frame, the Eagles would take a 5-1 lead off three consecutive goals from Aaron Schneekloth Jason Beatty and another from Schneekloth. The Gorillas would answer back with a goal from Chris Lipsett at 14:27 to make it a 5-2 game going into the final period.

The Eagles would strike first in period three, as Schneekloth completed the hat-trick getting a goal at 5:10, but the Gorillas wouldn't go away as they put up three unanswered goals from Lipsett, Austin Sutter and Shaun Arvai to make it a 6-5 contest. The Gorillas comeback efforts would fall just short however, as they could not get anything more past Eagles goalie Marco Emond.

Amarillo will stay in Colorado to face the Eagles once again tomorrow night.
