YOUNGSTOWN, OH - Two goals from Joel Irving, including the overtime game-winner, helped the Youngstown SteelHounds defeat the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 4-3 in overtime on Friday night at the Chevrolet Center .

The game was Youngstown 's home opener after 14 straight games on the road to start the season. The Mudbugs led by a goal after each of the first two periods, but could not hang on. Irving tied the game at three just over seven minutes into the third period and then scored the winner in overtime as Youngstown moved to 13-1-1, while Bossier-Shreveport fell to 5-6-2 on the year.

The Mudbugs didn't wait long to take the lead in this one, as Jake Ortmeyer's first goal of the season on a point shot put Bossier-Shreveport on top 1-0 only 55 seconds into the contest. Youngstown would answer back though with a powerplay goal from the newly acquired Jason Baird. Then with just under six minutes to go in the first, the ‘Bugs would regain the lead. Elias Godoy won a powerplay face-off right to Dale Lupul, who wristed the puck past Andy Franck for a 2-1 Mudbugs lead after 20 minutes.

In the second period, Youngstown tied the game up as Kevin Jarman set up Eric Przepiorka's ninth goal of the season at 16:10. Before the period was out though, Bossier-Shreveport retook the lead on a 5-on-3 powerplay goal. With both Milan Maslonka and Jeff Alcombrack in the box, Godoy fed a centering pass for Brett Smith, who scored his fourth of the season with only 22 seconds left in the frame to put the Mudbugs on top 3-2 after two.

The third period became what so many third periods had been earlier this season the Bossier-Shreveport. SteelHounds goalie Andy Franck made numerous phenomenal saves to keep it a one-goal game. Then the ‘Bugs were shorthanded early and often before giving up Irving 's goal that tied the game up. Despite late powerplay chances for both teams, the game went to overtime.

In the extra session, Kurtis Dulle fired a slapshot that hit the end boards behind Ken Carroll and caromed just in front of the opposite post. Irving pounced on the loose puck and scored the game-winner.

Bossier-Shreveport scored two powerplay goals in the game, finishing 2-6 on the man advantage, while Youngstown went 1-for-9. The final shots on goal were 26-22 in favor of the SteelHounds.

The two teams will get right back at it tomorrow night from the Chevrolet Center with a 6:05 Central time face-off for the third meeting of the season between Youngstown and Bossier-Shreveport.
