Hounds need OT to win #13

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds needed overtime but were able to defeat the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs by a score of 4-3 on Friday night at the Chevrolet Centre. The Hounds remain undefeated in home openers.

The Mudbugs jumped out to the early lead as Jake Ortmeyer scored at just 52 seconds into the game to make it 1-0. Jason Baird tied the game for Youngstown at the 7:26 mark of the first period. It is his second goal in as many games. Bossier-Shreveport answered back thanks to Dale Lupul's second goal of the season at 14:11 to make it 2-1 after one period.

Youngstown tied the game late in the second period as Eric Przepiorka scored his ninth goal of the season at the 16:10 mark. The Hounds committed two penalties late in the period and that allowed Brett Smith to score a five-on-three power play goal to make it 3-2 in favor of the Bugs after two periods. The Mudbugs were 2-6 on the power play.

Joel Irving scored at 7:11 of the third period to tie the game at 3-3 and force overtime. In overtime Irving struck again with his second goal of the game at 2:02 to give the Hounds the 4-3 win in front of 4,534 fans at the Chevrolet Centre. Irving also had a helper to give him six goals and nine assists on the season.

Youngstown is now 13-1-1 (27 points) and remains undefeated in home openers. The Mudbugs move to 5-6-2 (12 points). These two teams meet each other again on Saturday night at the Chevrolet Centre. The puck drops at 7:05 pm and is available on SteelHounds.com and AM600-WSOM.
