Bucks Snap Losing Streak: Beat Scorpions 3-2 LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the New Mexico Scorpions 3-2 in front of 4,181 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center Friday night. With the win Laredo snaps their three-game winning streak, and imroves their Southern Conference leading record to 12-3-1 (25 points).

The Scorpions (7-7-1) jumped out in front of the Bucks nearly four minutes into the first period at the 3:42 mark, when Andrew Smale scored on the power-play making it 1-0 New Mexico. The Bucks tied the game up at one with just 11 seconds left in the first period, when Chris Korchinski put in a power-play goal right in front of the Scorpions net. The tally was Laredo's first power-play goal in six games, they were one-for their last 36 with the man advantage. It was Korchinski's ninth goal of the season, and it was assisted by Brent MacSween and Rane Carnegie. Each team had 12 shots in the first period.

The Bucks (6-1 at home) took a 2-1 lead just 2:43 into the second period as Jeff Bes scored his 13th goal of the year, off of a feed from James Hiebert. Adam Rivet also picked up an assist on Bes' goal. Laredo made it 3-1 at the 9:12 mark when Andrew Desjardins sent a slap-shot from the left circle past Scorpions goalie Andrew Martin. Matt Summers and Rivet picked up the assists. It was Desjardins third goal of the season.

New Mexico cut the lead to 3-2 Laredo at the 11:13 mark as Mitch Stephens tipped in a pass from Craig Macdonald.

The Scorpions had a chance to tie it with 2:05 left in the second period, as the Bucks Steve Weidlich was called for a hooking penalty right in front of the Laredo net. The officials granted a penalty shot to New Mexico's Macdonald, but Bucks goalie Dustin Traylen stopped it with his stick, keeping it 3-2 Bucks. The two teams each had 17 shots in the second period.

The two teams played to a scoreless third period, as Traylen stopped all 13 Scorpions third period attempts.

New Mexico had a chance to tie the game up with 1:30 left, as they went on a power-play. The Scorpions would pull their goaltender with 46 seconds left to have a two-man advantage, but the Bucks, and Traylen held on for the win.

Traylen stopped 40 of 42 New Mexico shots, improving his record to 7-3-1, while Martin set aside 32 of 35 Laredo shots. Traylen is 3-0 against the Scorpions this season.

Eight different Bucks contributed points in the win.

The two teams will meet again Saturday night, game time is 7:30pm.
