Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

While the Major League Baseball non-waiver trade deadline passed without any Albuquerque Isotopes getting dealt, the ‘Topes were nevertheless impacted, as shortstop Dee Gordon has returned to Los Angeles after the Dodgers traded All-Star shortstop Rafael Furcal to the St. Louis Cardinals for Double-A outfielder Alex Castellanos. The move clears the way for Gordon to be the everyday shortstop of the Dodgers for the remainder of the season.

Gordon was nothing short of sensational for Albuquerque this season, batting .333 with 51 runs scored, 10 doubles, six triples, 24 RBI and 30 stolen bases, tied for third most in Isotopes team history. When Gordon was in the lineup, the Isotopes went 36-28. The fleet-footed shortstop was even hotter over last month after returning from his first stint in LA, batting .375 for Albuquerque since July 3 with 17 runs, three doubles, four triples, and eight stolen bases.

In 22 games with the Dodgers from June 6 to July 2, his Major League debut, Gordon batted .232 with 11 runs scored and nine stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Castellanos has played the entire season for the Cardinals Double-A affiliate in Springfield, where he was a Texas League All-Star after batting .319 with 19 homers and 62 RBI. The outfielder will report to Double-A Chattanooga.

The ‘Topes are back home this Wednesday for a big eight-game homestand against the Tacoma Rainiers, Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, and the Salt Lake Bees, top affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. On tap for the eight games are an Orbit Bank giveaway, Isotopes hat night, and another spectacular fireworks show! Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
