Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

In a blockbuster deal completed just minutes before the Major League Baseball non-waiver Trade Deadline, Albuquerque Isotopes All-Star outfielder Trayvon Robinson was traded by the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Boston Red Sox, who then immediately sent him to the Seattle Mariners for left-handed starting pitcher Erik Bedard. In return, the Dodgers have received three minor league players from the Red Sox, including catcher Tim Federowicz, who is scheduled to join the ‘Topes at some point in New Orleans.

Robinson was enjoying a stellar season for the Isotopes, batting .293 with a career-high 26 home runs, tied for third most in the Pacific Coast League, and a team-high 71 RBI. He twice had team-high hitting streaks of 16 games and was the starting left fielder for the PCL in the Triple-A All-Star Game as well as a participant in the All-Star Home Run Derby.

Federowicz, who turns 24 this Friday, was playing for Boston's Double-A affiliate in Portland, Maine, where he was batting .277, with 46 runs, 20 doubles, eight homers, and 52 RBI in 90 games. In addition to Federowicz, the Dodgers received a pair of young pitchers, right-hander Juan Rodriguez, who is slated to join Single-A Great Lakes, and righty Stephen Fife, who will report to Double-A Chattanooga.

The Mariners sent Bedard and minor league reliever Josh Fields to the Red Sox in exchange for Robinson and Boston Double-A outfielder Chih-Hsien Chiang.

There is a chance Isotopes fans will get one last opportunity to see Robinson, as the Tacoma Rainiers, Triple-A affiliate of the Mariners, are scheduled to begin a four-game series against the ‘Topes in Albuquerque this Wednesday. It has not been announced whether Robinson will join the Rainiers or make his Major League debut with the Mariners.

The ‘Topes are back home this Wednesday for a big eight-game homestand against the Rainiers and the Salt Lake Bees, top affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. On tap for the eight games are an Orbit Bank giveaway, Isotopes hat night, and another spectacular fireworks show! Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
