Tucson Padres News Release
The Salt Lake Bees scored 12 runs in the fifth inning Saturday and beat the Tucson Padres, 12-5. It was by far the most runs Tucson pitching has allowed in one inning; the previous high was when Tacoma scored eight runs in an inning at Kino Stadium on June 6. The Bees' rally Saturday started with nine straight hitters reaching base by a hit or walk. In fact, all 12 runs scored with one out or less. Reliever Will Inman struck out two hitters in a row to end the frame.
The Padres took the first lead, scoring four times in the top of the third inning. Tucson loaded the bases with none out in the third and scored twice on back-to-back fielder's choices. Steve Tolleson then hit a two-run double, his 19th double of the season. Tolleson later hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth and finished the game 1-for-3 with three RBIs.
San Diego Padres relief pitcher Joe Thatcher pitched a scoreless outing and now has a 1.59 ERA in six Major League injury rehab outings with the T-Pads. The Padres highest run total in an inning this season is also 12 and also came in a game vs. Salt Lake. Tucson scored 12 times in an inning on May 29 against Bees starter Scott Kazmir. Tucson has struggled against Salt Lake this season, losing nine of 13 against the Angels Triple-A affiliate.
