Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Luis Alen homered and the Winnipeg Goldeyes pounded out 14 hits as the Fish won their third straight road game, 6-4, over the SouthShore RailCats in Gary on Tuesday night.

With the victory, the Goldeyes are now 7-2 on their current 10-game road trip and have improved to 36-33 on the season. They've won two straight from the fifth-place RailCats and have moved two and a half games ahead of slumping Gary in the race for the final playoff spot in the Northern League.

While four pitchers combined for the win, it was another huge outing for the Goldeyes red-hot hitters. Aharon Eggleston had three hits and drove in a run; Price Kendall had two more hits and raised his batting average to .336; Juan Diaz went two-for-five with an RBI and is now hitting .310; Kevin West went two-for-three, scored two runs and raised his average to .331; Alen had a homer, two hits and a run scored and Dee Brown had a pair of hits in four trips.

It was an especially satisfying win for Winnipeg who only got an inning and a third out of starter Stephen Flake.

The Goldeyes fell behind 2-0 quickly as Gary scored a pair in the first, but the Fish rallied with three in the second, as Kevin West singled and came home in front of Luis Alen, who hit a two-run homer. Then Vince Harrison singled, Dee brown singled and Harrison came home on a base hit by Aharon Eggleston.

Gary tied it in the bottom of the second, but the Goldeyes came back with a run in the third as West tripled and came home on a single by Alen.

Winnipeg took a 5-3 lead in the fourth when Eggleston singled, Long singled and then Diaz singled to score Eggleston from third.

The RailCats cut the lead to 5-4 in the bottom of the fourth, but the Goldeyes made it 6-4 in the seventh when a Harrison ground out scored Justin Justice from third.

With Zach Baldwin, Corey Bass and Ian Thomas working brilliantly from the bullpen, Winnipeg put a lock on its 36th win of the campaign.

Baldwin, who pitched five and a third innings of relief got the win (3-1, 3.33 ERA) while Thomas (1.82 ERA) picked up his third save. Starter Brad Halsey suffered the loss for Gary.

Winnipeg and Gary will play the final game of this three-game set in Gary, Ind. Ace Walker (5-3, 3.98 ERA) will get the start for Winnipeg, while Willie Glen (7-2, 2.70 ERA) will take the ball for Gary. The game can be heard live in Winnipeg on 1290 CFRW, beginning at 6:05 p.m.
