Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the baseball club has re-signed veteran infielder Yurendell de Caster.

De Caster, 32, suited up in 31 games for the Goldeyes this season, hitting .351 with four home runs and 26 RBI before leaving to join Tabasco of the Mexican League on June 21. With Tabasco, the product of Curacao hit .320 with an RBI in seven games.

De Caster's .351 batting average with Winnipeg is good for eight overall in the American Association.

To make room on the roster for de Caster, the Goldeyes have traded infielder Gabby Martinez to the Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League for future considerations . Martinez hit .211 with three home runs and eight RBI in 10 games with the Goldeyes.

Following these two moves, Winnipeg has 22 players on its active roster, including 12 pitchers and 10 position players.

The Goldeyes begin a 12-game homestand tonight with the first of four games against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and the first 2,500 through the gates will receive a Goldeyes hat, courtesy of Pepsi. Game time is 7:00 p.m.

Great seats for all 12 games of the homestand are available by clicking on Ticketmaster.ca, calling 1-855-GOLDEYE or visiting the Shaw Park box office.
