
Goldeyes Fall Just Short in Series Finale against Dogs

Rosemont, IL - The Winnipeg Goldeyes fell 6-5 to the Chicago Dogs in a close game at Impact Field on Sunday afternoon.
Tied 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh, Chicago's Craig Maddox hit an RBI single to right field that gave the Dogs the winning run.
For the first time in the series, the Dogs opened scoring. Jonathan Moroney hit a two out, two run single that brought Trey Vavra and Edwin Arroyo home for the Dogs. After a Dalton Blazer single brought Moroney to third, Chicago's Matt Dean hit an RBI double to bring Moroney home and the score to 3-0.
The Fish answered back quickly in the top of the second. Newly acquired infielder Jordan Edgerton hit an RBI double that brought Reggie Abercrombie to home plate. Jordan Ebert followed up by a sacrifice fly from to bring Josh Mazzola home, and cut the Dogs' lead 3-2.
In his second start of the year Gavin Stupienski recorded his second RBI, to tie the game at 3-3 in the third inning. Goldeyes shortstop Andrew Sohn ripped a groundball through left field, to bring Stupienski home and give the Fish the go-ahead run.
After an Ebert double in the sixth inning, Kevin Garcia hit a single to right field that brought Ebert to home plate. Chicago's Dalton Blaser answered back with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the inning, to tie the game at 5-5.
In his 100th professional start Goldeyes starting pitcher Charle Rosario (1-1) took the loss for the Fish, despite pitching well through seven innings. At one point, Rosario retired twelve consecutive batters. Chicago's Brandon Shimo took the win in relief, and Kaohi Downing was credited with the save.
The Goldeyes now head to Gary, Indiana to play the Gary SouthShore RailCats in a three game series at U.S. Steel Yard. Goldeyes left-handed starting pitcher Kevin McGovern (1-1, 3.17) takes on left-hander Jeff McKenzie (1-0, 8.0) on Monday night.
