Sioux City Explorers News Release

Grand Prairie, TX - Sioux City used a few multi-run innings and some more good pitching to finish off the 3-game sweep of the Texas Airhogs.

It was a scoreless game until the fourth inning when Sioux City was finally able to put together a rally. Michael Lang lead things off with a single, Jay Austin then reached next on a catchers interference. Jose Sermo would drive in Lang with a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 1-0 Sioux City. Dexture McCall would then reach on an infield single and Jay Baum walked to load the bases. Dylan Kelly would step in with the bases loaded and with a 3-2 count with two outs and the runners going on the pitch Kelly delivered a ground ball into right center field to clear the bases and give the Explorers a 4-0 lead.

That is all Sioux City start Taylor Jordan (3-0) would need to pick up the win as he went 5.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits, striking out 3 and walking only 1. With at one point Jordan retiring 9 straight Airhogs.

The X's would score again in the sixth when Sermo worked a one out walk and then stole second. Jay Baum would then drive him in on a perfectly timed hit and run making it 5-0 Explorers.

The Airhogs would score twice in the sixth when Dillon Thomas reached on a double and Stewart Ijames drove him home when he roped a triple into right-center field and then he would score on a ground out to cut the lead to 5-2. But that is as close as the Airhogs would get.

The X's would tack on three more runs in the eighth lead by Jose Sermo's RBI double and Dylan Kelly's RBI single, with Kelly picking up his fourth RBI of the game making it 8-2 Sioux City after eight innings.

The X's would tack on two more in the ninth on three straight extra base hits with 2 outs. A double by Nate Samson, an RBI triple from Jose Sermo, and an RBI double by Dexture McCall.

The bullpen for Sioux City was once again dominant as Tyler Fallwell, Patrick Schuster and Ryan Flores combined to shut out the Airhogs for the last 3.1 innings of the ball game allowing only two base runners.

Sioux City with the win improves to 13-4 on the season and will now start a three game series against the Cleburne Railroaders, June 4th-6th.
