Goldeyes Fall a Run Short Again

For the second-straight night the Winnipeg Goldeyes entered in the ninth inning down a run. For the second-straight night the visiting Lake County Fielders held on to the one-run lead.

With Wes Long on first base, Juan Diaz grounded into a game-ending double play, as the Fielders beat the Goldeyes 3-2 Thursday night before 5,547 fans at Canwest Park.

The Goldeyes got on the board with a run in the second inning, but Lake County went up 2-1 in the third inning and took the lead for good in the fifth inning.

Justin Justice was the leader on the plate for Winnipeg, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. He was the only Goldeyes player to string together a multi-hit game.

John Brownell went the distance for his second win of the season. Jason Mackintosh was great in his debut, but takes the loss for Winnipeg.

The Goldeyes welcome the Schaumburg Flyers for three games, beginning tomorrow night.

Goldeyes Notes

Winnipeg has lost three in a row and is now three games below .500.

The Goldeyes lose the series 3-1 and are 3-2-2 in four-game series this season.

Lake County won six of the last seven meetings with Winnipeg this season.

The Goldeyes committed eight errors in the series and have been charged with at least one error in seven-straight games.

The Fish are now 0-23 when trailing going into the ninth inning this season.

The game was delayed by rain for 44 minutes, pushing the start time back to 6:49 p.m.

Winnipeg only left two runners on base, which is a season low.
